Provenance: the artist

Galleria Christian Stein

This work arises from the interplay between two dimensions: one defined by the choreography of the artist’s gestures and movements, the other by the nature, density, and color of the pigment. The surface itself also plays a crucial role, influencing the final result both in terms of light reflection and the thickness and physical consistency of the paint.

Following Jason Martin’s first solo exhibition at Galleria Christian Stein in 2023, his second show closed in May 2026.

Jason Martin lives and works in London and Portugal. He participated in the Young British Artists exhibition "Sensation" in 1997. While this exhibition brought him international recognition, leading to subsequent exhibitions in the world's most important contemporary art museums, his art diverged from the provocative style of his generation. He painted monochromatic pieces, utilizing oil paints, thick pigments, and graphite to create highly tactile paintings with dynamic color fields, exploring the inner possibilities and potentiality of the medium.

His work is owned by numerous collections worldwide, including:

Albright Knox Gallery, Buffalo, New York; Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Birmingham; Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Malaga, Malaga; Collection Group e Lhoist, Brussels; Denver Art Museum, Denver; Deutsche Bank Collection, UK; Fonds National d’Art Contemporain, Paris, France; Government Art Collection, UK; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC; Museum of Contemporary Art, Salzburg; Kunsthalle Weishaupt, Ulm; Museum of Modern Art, La Spezia; Saastamoinen Foundation, EMMA Museum, Espoo.
